Farmland Renewal LLC’s Copake Agricultural Center is located in the heart of the village of Copake, NY, near Hudson. The diverse farmland encompasses 122 acres of prime agricultural lowland and over 70 acres of sloping upland fields and farmstead complex. The agroecology activities planned and under way for this NEFA agricultural center will include water management, integration of livestock, planting of hedgerows, organic orchardry, native riparian habitat restoration, farmstay visits, and community events spaces. Copake Agricultural Center supports multiple farmers who are dedicated to growing organic food sold throughout regional and local marketplaces and restaurants.
(At NEFA’s three New York agricultural centers in Copake, Chester, and Kingston, New York, multidisciplinary approach and mixed methods are being utilized to analyze the social and ecological impacts and benefits that are generated when agriculture, people’s livelihoods, and nature co-exist. The diversified farming and food-processing operations at NEFA’s three distinct sites each comprise four or more farm households with independent but complementary operations. The Centers are different ecologically; in various stages of conversion from conventional to organic agricultural practices; and at different phases of adaptation to mutual association and investor ownership.
