For several months, Northeast Farm Access has been working with the Orange County Land Trust to develop an innovative project that will protect farmland and support organic farming in the black-dirt region of New York State. Our combined vision for the land is rapidly taking shape, with enthusiastic local support.
Please join us Dec. 6th in Chester, NY, to hear about the exciting agricultural project that the Ralph E. Ogden Foundation has initiated in Chester, N.Y, where last week the foundation’s equity investment and bridge loan enabled the Chester Agricultural Center, LLC, to close on the first 70 acres and barn in the 270-acre, six-barn acquisition plan.
Leaders in organic farming, agro-ecology and social justice work have joined with NEFA at Chester to develop meaningful innovations in farming methods, equitable labor practices and educational and training programs.
Several farmers have committed to long-term leases, and several other collaborative partners have been identified. One of them, Travis Jones, was just featured in the “Times Herald-Record” of Middletown, NY.
The next farmland purchase is scheduled to close on Dec. 18.
Join us on Dec. 6 at 4:30 PM at Blooming Hill Farm, in Blooming Grove, NY, to learn more about how social investors, farmers and others are coming together to promote and sustain agriculture in the Hudson Valley. Please RSVP to Bob Bernstein (details above). We look forward to seeing you there.
